Welcome to the Multicultural Greek Council at UCSD
Welcome from the President
Hello, on behalf of the Executive Board and the Multicultural Greek Council, welcome to the official website of the Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) at the University of California, San Diego. My name is Megan Lin and I am the 2017 Multicultural Greek Council President. It is my honor to represent one of the three Greek Councils at UCSD that aims to create a community that is committed to social justice, community service, academics, long-term friendships, and leadership and professional development. Right now you might be thinking that Greek life is not for you at all, and trust me, I thought the same thing. However, once I met the MGC community, my perspective on Greek life definitely changed, and I know it will be the same for you.
The Multicultural Greek Council was founded by 5 organizations and is now composed of 15 diverse sororities and fraternities. Our chapters were founded on the principle of bringing cultural awareness to the University, and we are proud to have sororities and fraternities that focus on Armenian, Asian, Latinx/Chicanx culture and LGBTQ awareness. Uniquely to MGC, we are an intimate BUT united community that provides students with brothers and sisters and a home away from home. Through that unity, we celebrate the richness of the cultures that exist in our council, the roots that we take pride in and embrace those differences that exist within us through solidarity and support for one another.
Greek Life not only gives individuals the opportunity to build lasting friendships, but it also provides students with a space to gain real leadership experience that is going to help members grow into young leaders. Having the inter council interaction prepares Greek members to be group collaborators with different groups of people. Not only is Greek life committed to creating a safe and welcoming space for you, but it is also committed to support you in your professional development, career goals and academic excellence here at UC San Diego and beyond. Like I mentioned before, as a freshman, I never thought Greek life would be the fit for me or that I would ever be part of the Greek system. However, joining MGC, I found genuine friendships, support and opportunities to get involved and grow as an individual and leader. For this, I forever take pride in being part of the Multicultural Greek Council Community. Over the years, I have seen how many MGC alumni have graduated from UC San Diego and have gone on to amazing career paths, and the MGC community wants the same for you!
I encourage you to look at our website, check out each organization and talk with the Multicultural Greek Council members and see which organization is for you. I have no doubt in my mind that one of our chapters will be a home away from home for you! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me by text at (817) 897-4426 or via email at mailto:firstname.lastname@example.org . I am always down for coffee and meeting new people! We hope to see you at MGC Info Night on October 3, 2017!
